Gardner Muirhead – “Ephemera”
17th October 2019 – 6th November 2019
Inspired by regular trips to Europe (mostly Berlin), Scottish artist Gardner Muirhead’s work concerns itself with found imagery, colour, balance and space; reflecting his love of modernism, typography, Weimar and cold war aesthetics.
Travel is integral to his creative process; He’s always searching for authentic source material in flea markets, antique shops and junk yards. He uses these found treasures – vintage magazines and print ephemera alongside his own painting, photography and printmaking to create juxtapositions, assemblage, and digital prints.
The trick is keeping an open mind – it’s as if all the different components interact with each other, invent their own logic and guide him to the finishing line – each piece of work creating a life of it’s own.
This is Gardner Muirhead’s first solo exhibition in London.
